Bass In Season

The Helford mouth is one of Cornwall's best bass marks. Fish the flood into the river, especially spring tides. Top of tide and first hour of ebb are prime. Night fishing at Dennis Head is legendary.

Bait: Live sandeel (collect from beach), plug, soft plastic, crab

Limit: 2 per person per day. Minimum Size: 42cm.

Grey Mullet In Season

Mullet patrol the channel edges at the mouth. Flat calm mornings only.

Bait: Bread flake, maggot

Wrasse In Season

Rocks at the river mouth hold ballan wrasse. Fish the kelp at high water.

Bait: Peeler crab, limpet, ragworm

Red Gurnard In Season

Sandy patches just outside the mouth. Small hooks on ledger.

Bait: Ragworm, sandeel
